Delta-8-Tetrahydrocannabinol (Delta-8 THC)
Delta-8-Tetrahydrocannabinol, otherwise known as delta-8 THC, is a psychoactive substance. It is found in the cannabis sativa plant, and its two varieties include hemp and marijuana. This chemical is also found in the plant in minimal amounts or low concentrations. It is known to be moderately potent than its other variant, the delta-9 THC. However, these two substances have similarities in terms of their contents. They both contain double bonds in their molecular chain, but the placement of these bonds is different. Such a difference pushed their potency to different levels.
Roger Adams and his peers first published the substance’s partial synthesis at the University of Illinois in 1941. However, total synthesis was not achieved until 1965, when scientists started to isolate the substance from cannabis through modern scientific methods.
