PHOENIX, AZ – At a time when many consumers now prefer home delivery of products, people in Arizona will have the opportunity to have recreational marijuana brought right to their doorstep.
According to ABC News and the Associated Press, the Arizona Department of Health Services began expanding home delivery of weed last Friday to anyone 21 and older, a first for the state’s marijuana industry.
Until now, deliveries were only available for medical marijuana patients. Delivery will be offered through individual dispensaries or third-party delivery services who will have to partner with a state-licensed dispensary to legally deliver the cannabis.
Arizona joins other states that allow recreational marijuana delivery, including California, Oregon, Colorado, Nevada, Michigan and Massachusetts.
Arizona is setting a $10,000 product limit per vehicle and requiring lockboxes and onboard cameras for security. In 2020, the state’s voters approved a ballot measure allowing for recreational marijuana sales. Medical marijuana has been legal in Arizona since 2010.
The approval of home delivery was hailed by the Arizona Dispensaries Association.
“We are thrilled that the department of health’s proactive approach and commitment to implementing a well-thought-out delivery program has helped us reach this landmark moment sooner than expected,” Ann Torrez, the association’s executive director, told television station KPNX.
Arizona Dispensary Association board member Michael O’Brien told KVOA the change would expand access to marijuana for some consumers.
“There are probably some people that are still uncomfortable coming into a dispensary because maybe they are intimidated or they’re unfamiliar or maybe they just don’t want to be seen there because they have their own stigmas within their communities,” said O’Brien. “So that may open up some additional customer opportunities as well.”
