First-Ever Medical Cannabis Shop Opens in Houston
HOUSTON, TX – Texas-based cannabis company, Texas Original, recently opened the doors to the first-ever medical cannabis store in Houston’s The Heights neighborhood, according to KHOU.
The store, which is located on Houston Avenue, permits medical marijuana patients with a valid prescription to purchase tinctures, gummies, and more.
Products that contain more than 1% THC are still illegal in Texas. However, the shop is able to operate under the parameters of the Compassionate Use Program, which allows cannabis for the treatment of specific disorders.
“It’s the first of its kind in Houston without a doubt,” said Texas Original CEO Morris Denton. “I mean, it’s a historic store in the City of Houston. It’s the first medical cannabis store that’s part of the state’s Compassionate Use Program.”
While Texas is likely to be one of the last states to fully legalize cannabis, Texas Original is one of just a few cannabis companies permitted to sell within the state. All of their products are grown, harvested, extracted, and delivered in Texas.
Products are currently driven from Austin to Houston on a daily basis as current state laws prohibits the Houston store form keeping them overnight.
