Nets And Liberty Become First NBA And WNBA Teams To Partner With Cannabis Company

NEW YORK, NY – The Brooklyn Nets and the New York Liberty have become the first NBA and WNBA teams to partner with a cannabis company, Bloomberg reports.

The franchises entered into a multi-year agreement with Mynd Drinks, a hemp-based CBD sparkling beverage company with THC-free drinks.  Mynd, which also is an official partner of the Chicago Cubs, will become the official wellness and recovery drink partner for the Nets and the Liberty.  Mynd Drinks will be available for purchase at Nets and Liberty games as well as other events at the home of both teams, the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The partnership was agreed upon several months after the NBA removed marijuana from the list of banned substances for players and also allowed investments by players in cannabis companies.

“This gives us an anchor for the East Coast in terms of exposure, marketing, and expansion,” MYND CEO Simon Allen said in a statement to Bloomberg News. “We’ve had tons of opportunities to work with different teams, but what we really liked about both of the teams was they shared a lot of what our vision was.”

In major league baseball, the Kansas City Royals became the second team after the Cubs to partner with a cannabis company when they signed a deal with Pure Spectrum CBD, which produces hemp-derived cannabidiol products such as oils and gummies.  MLB also has a partnership with CBD brand Charlotte’s Web Holdings.
