New York Approves ‘Cannabis Growers Showcase’ to Ease Access to Legal Cannabis

ALBANY, N.Y.  – New York’s Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) has given approval for the implementation of “The Cannabis Growers Showcase,” a measure that aims to address the oversupply issue faced by stakeholders in the state, WTEN reports.

Jeremy Jimenez, CEO of Honest Farm Co., expressed his hopes for swift release of the rules and regulations, especially during the summer season, as he possesses an excess of 1000 pounds of cannabis. Reports indicate that among all growers, there is an oversupply of 250,000 pounds of flour from the 2022 growing season due to the anticipation of more dispensaries opening by now.

“Hopefully they get these rules and regulations out fairly quickly and you know it’s summer time … you don’t wanna buy weed in the middle of the winter,” said Jimenez.

The purpose of The Cannabis Growers Showcase is to enable three growers to collaborate with a retailer, allowing them to sell their products at specific festivals and events.

“These can be at the farms of our growers, or at the manufacturing facilities of our processors, or even at our retail locations,” said John Kagia, Director of Policy at OCM.

The events where the showcase can be held must be approved by OCM and cannot take place at locations where the majority of attendees are under 21 or receive federal funding. Kagia explained that they will evaluate the proposals and submissions as they are received.

Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo, Chair of the Agriculture Committee, expressed relief at the long-awaited approval of The Cannabis Growers Showcase.

“We have been truly desperate over what Senator Hinchey and I have described as an agricultural emergency,” Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo, Chair of the Agriculture Committee, expressed. “Even in the meeting they described our farmers as the anchors of the cannabis supply chain, so it’s long overdue, welcome news.”
