NY Voting on 36 Finalists of 903 Applicants for First Marijuana Retailers
NEW YORK, NY – Office of Cannabis Management is voting today, Monday, November 21 on the 36 finalists that will become New York’s first marijuana retailers.
According to the New York Times, the finalists were selected from a pool of 903 applicants and are mix of businesses and nonprofit organizations. The goal is to have these retailers up and running before the end of the year.
New York is the first state to reserve licenses exclusively for nonprofit organizations. Under the licenses, operators are allowed to open three dispensaries.
Recreational marijuana was legalized in March 2021. This law allows state residents to possess up to three ounces of marijuana or 24 grams of concentrate.
