Sen. Jen Day Pledges 2023 Medical Marijuana Bill for NE
LINCOLN, NE – On Tuesday, Senator Jen Day announced her plan to introduce legislation in 2023 to legalize medical cannabis in Nebraska.
According to Fox NE KFXL, Day made her statement one day after Nebraska Secretary of State Bob Evnen announced the failure of two initiatives aimed at adding medical marijuana to the November ballot.
The two ballot initiatives were called the Medical Cannabis Regulation Initiative and the Medical Cannabis Patient Protections Initiative. Both initiatives fell short of the 86,776 signatures required to make the ballot.
Senator Day indicated that she might consider calling a special session this fall to discuss the issue, though it’s unclear if legislators will want to return prior to the start of the 2023 session on January 4th.
The Democratic senator took to Twitter to promise follow through on the issue for her constituents: “Every option will be used. Nebraskans deserve this and want it. Let’s go.”
