WA Cannabis Bill Passed in Senate, Stops Cannabis Tests from Employers
OLYMPIA, WA – Senate just passed a bill that will stop employers from drug testing prospective employees for cannabis.
Now that it has passed in Senate it will go to the House for a vote and if passes will become law in the state, according to KATU.
One of the head sponsors of the bill is Sen. Derek Stanford (D-Bothell). He and the other sponsors hope this removes a barrier for people who are afraid to apply for jobs due to not passing a drug test.
There will be some exceptions when employers are allowed to screen for cannabis, such as, jobs that are a safety-related position or if it requires a federal government background check.
